The Vision

Sound Fiscal Policy Mayor Bob McGrory believes in responsible government.  His attention to detail has cut the Town's costs while enhancing services to residents.

Revitalization: Mayor McGrory has worked with State and County officials to ensure that Bladensburg's needs are being addressed.

Quality Education:
Bob has worked with the School Board and CEO to build new schools in our community.

Bob McGrory is presently Mayor of Bladensburg, and previously served two terms on the Bladensburg Town Council.  He has actively worked on the council to reduce costs while enhancing the services and amenities the town provides to its residents.  He has promoted community oriented policing initiatives, enhanced citizen access to town-owned facilities, and revitalization efforts to rebuild the town's historical position as a center of commerce.

Mayor McGrory is the President of Anacostia Trails Heritage Area, Inc., a 501c3 non-profit corporation dedicated to promoting economic and community development in Northwestern Prince George's County through heritage tourism.  He was elected by the Board of Directors, which includes the mayors of 14 local municipalities, to help lead the organization's drive to become a state certified heritage area.  This goal was realized in 2002 by the Maryland Heritage Areas Authority, which has now made our region eligible to access millions of dollars in state funds through the Heritage Areas program.

Mayor McGrory has served on the Boards of Directors of:
*Net.Work.Maryland which aims to enhance access to technology using the resources of the State of Maryland
*The Port Towns Community Development Corporation, which has part of a nationally recognized collaboration among the businesses, residents, and government entities in the Port Towns communities of Bladensburg, Colmar Manor, and Cottage City.
*The Prince George's County Municipal Association, where he chairs the Scholarship committee and has helped set a record number of scholarships this year.
Bob also served for three years on the Maryland Municipal League's Legislative Committee, where he has worked to ensure that Maryland's laws serve the interests of local communities, and he was on the Community and Economic Development Committee of the National League of Cities.

Bob's career has been spent working in public education as an advocate for giving educators and public employees modern tools, training, and skills to better serve students.  You can find more information about his work on his web site at the Community College.

Bob lives at 5438 Taylor Street in Bladensburg, Maryland with his wife Laura Van Wie McGrory and their two children, Ian (3) and Maya (1).  The family enjoys paddling their canoe on the nearby Anacostia River, and have actively supported the efforts of the Anacostia Watershed Society to clean up this wonderful natural resource.  He serves as a voter registration volunteer in Prince George's County, and has previously volunteered teaching children of migrant farm workers and on habitat conservation projects in the US and abroad.

Bob has been active in securing organizational support for the Maryland Citizen's Health Care Initiative, and believes that its proposals present an excellent starting point for negotiating a legislative solution to address the health care needs of more than half a million Marylanders who have no health insurance coverage.
